Grateful Dead Stage Layout
So here is what the stage is going to look like for the Grateful Dead shows. The stage is a bit open in the back so you may be able to catch a glimpse of the performance form the obstructed seats behind the stage, but you'd need to be sitting directly behind it. Also, notice the large speakers hanging off the side of the stage, which could impact the views of the sections just off the stage.
Check out pictures from this weekend's Grateful Dead shows at Levi's Stadium to give yourself an idea of what to expect at Soldier Field.
Grateful Dead Seating Chart | General Admission
There are two different general admission seating areas for The Grateful Dead's Fare Thee Well Tour at Levi's Stadium and Soldier Field. The GA Pit section is closest to the stage, and the GA Field section is essentially from the 50 yard line back. The Pit areas are not separate like they are shown above, and as with all General Admission tickets your standing location is based on a first come first serve basis.
The GA Pit tickets are some of the most expensive tickets for The Grateful Dead, whereas the GA Field tickets are relatively affordable in comparison. However, we would not advise buying GA Field tickets if you want to be close to the stage, or if you want to have the option to sit at all during the show. Also since there won't be any elevation on the field, it may be challenging to see the entire stage, especially if you are vertically challenged.
Grateful Dead Seating Chart | Obstructed View Seating
Due to such high demand, Levi's Stadium and Soldier Field opened seats in all seating levels on the sides and behind the stage. The sections that are parallel with the stage will be marked "side stage" or "partially obstructed". A partially obstructed seat will still provide some view of the stage, but it will be limited and you may not be able to see the performers if they move to certain areas of the stage during the performance. However, these seats will be the cheapest Grateful Dead tickets that still offer a chance to see the action.
Now, as you move behind the stage those section will provide no view of the stage whatsoever. These seats are for those that just want to be in building for the Grateful Dead's last performances. Levi's Stadium and Soldier Field will be providing TV monitors to provide video of the concert, so you can still see the performers as you listen to them live. Because of this setup, the obstructed (no) view seating for the Fare Thee Well concert series are the cheapest Grateful Dead tickets available. You can check the prices for those Cheap Grateful Dead Tickets Here.
Soldier Field Seating Chart with Seat Views
Hover over each section for the Soldier Field Row Breakdown and Seat View
These Soldier Field Seat Views are for Chicago Bears games, but they can still be valuable in helping decide seats for the Grateful Dead. Remember the front of the stage is set up at about sections 104 and 143, or in the end zone on this map. So if you can imagine the stage starting at the goaline and taking up the entire endzone, these views can be very useful.
Some important takeaways from the "Soldier Field Concert Seat Views":
- The 100 level seating is shallow (and expensive). You are better off sitting in the 300 level closer to the stage than in the opposite endzone (sections 119-126)
- The GA Field seating is farther away from the stage than you think. In many cases you are better off in a regular section with seating to guarantee your location.
- The 200 (club) level may be a better option than seats in the 100 level in the sections 210-235. Since these section are a bit back from the stage, the cheaper prices in the 200 level may be more appealing, especially since the views are very comparable.

Same situation here as it was for Soldier Field, where these seat views are for San Francisco 49ers games. The stage is set up at about sections 120 and 134.

If my tickets say GA 4 – is this the GA Pit or GA Field?
I have 2 GA commemorative TIX for Saturday nite would like to trade for seats… please message me 312-952-1903
Are sections 200 and 300 separate levels in the club level? I have 308 and Have friends in 209 and want to be able to see them during the show without having to stub back. Thanks
Hi Jason – I believe these sections are separated so it may be difficult for you to get down there.
Jack, thanks for all the great info. For Santa Clara, do you know if there will be screens on both the sides and back of the stage? I’m in Section 133, Row 3. Any idea of the view from there? It says ‘behind stage’ so I have low expectations, but many of the diagrams make it look like Section 133 is a bit in front of stage, so maybe there could be some view (I know they added Pit tickets after building the stage because they had more space than thought). Thanks, Matt
It says in the article to ‘Hover over each section for the Soldier Field Row Breakdown and Seat View’ Where do you do that at?
Why is is that Ticketmaster prices for GA pit are $99 plus fees and GA field are $199 plus fees?
I have confirmed this and can’t understand why I have paid twice as much to be twice as far away.
Any ideas please?
“The GA Pit tickets are some of the most expensive tickets for The Grateful Dead, whereas the GA Field tickets are relatively affordable in comparison.”
Eric – I honestly have no idea why that would be the case. On the secondary market GA Pit tickets are around $100 more than the field tickets. Wish I could give you a better answer.
My GA field tickets show “standing room only’. However, it also shows a Row # & a Seat #. Which is correct?
Hi – standing room only is correct. The section and row you are seeing on the tickets is used by the sellers to keep track of the number of the number of tickets they sold.
Thanks, I will have to see if I can trade for seats as my wife is mobility impaired. Either that, or we will have to use our Sunday tickets in section 402. We have parking passes for both days, so hopefully we can work something out.
I have tickets with seats and would gladly trade you.
H Bender, my husband and I would love to be in the field with our two daughters who will be attending their first show. We would gladly trade you so you were able to have seats. If you are interested, I can post our seat sections and locations.
Thank you for the seating charts and explanations, they’re very helpful.
There’s mention that for Levi’s stadium, the stage will be level with Section 120. I’m trying to figure if I’d be able to clearly see the side of the stage, or have polls in the way, or no view of the stage at all from my seats, Sec. 121, Row 8, 16-19.
If you know, it’d be much appreciated!
I’ve figured out my Sun. seats probably will be looking at the back of the stage Sec. 131, Row, 16, so I’m selling them.
Hi there – Are the tickets marked as obstructed or side view on the actual tickets you received? For many events those tickets would be marked ‘partially obstructed/side stage’ on the ticket, but I’m not 100% sure that would be the case here.
Yes, they’re marked “obstructed view”, but Sec 121 isn’t listed in the “behind the stage” sections, I’ve seen on several web sites.
From the diagrams it looks like there would be a view of the side of the stage. Sometimes on the sides of field stages, there’s big poles, etc. Sometimes it’s open and clear. So I was looking for detailed info. for Sec. 121 Row 8, but can’t find any.
Hi Sheeran – I wish I had a more concrete answer for you. Based on all the factors here I would expect this to be a normal side stage view, but normally that would be marked partially obstructed and not ‘obstructed view’. When I wrote this post I contacted the each venue directly to see if they could provide more details but they were not much help.
Seat numbers 16-19 will be closer to section 122 so they won’t be at a favorable angle to stage regardless. My theory is that the stage is going to pretty intricate with several light and speaker stands surrounding it which is why those tickets are marked obstructed.
Can anyone explain why some 200 sections at Levi’s Stadium, such as C217, C218, C237 and C238, show up as being “obstructed view,” when from the seating chart they don’t appear to be obstructed view?

Great questions Jonathan, I wish I had an answer for you. I’ve reached out to sellers with tickets in those sections and no one is completely sure what it is. If I find a definitive answer I will post it here.

Maybe Speaker towers? With the amount of money supposedly going into sound and lights, there has to be some obstructed views besides the stage IMO.
