The Gershwin Theatre is one of the largest and most renowned theatre venues in New York City. This theatre is famous for staging iconic shows, including Show Boat, Porgy and Bess, My Fair Lady, and Sweeney Todd. When considering buying tickets to see a show, it is essential to realize that the Gershwin Theatreย seating chart does not provide the best views for everyone.
When looking to buy tickets for the current running show, Wicked, finding the best seats at the best price can be challenging.
In this post, I will tell you which seats are theย bestย and which are theย worst. Iโll also tell you how to find theย best dealsย and cheaper Wicked tickets.

Gershwin Theatre Seating Chart Information
Side Orchestra Seats, Obstructed & Unobstructed Views:
The majority of the seats in the side orchestra sections will provide you with a fabulous unobstructed view. However, you need to be cautious of two things:
- The higher the seat number, the closer you are to the side, thus increasing the likelihood of having an obstructed view.
- See our obstructed view section above for more information about exactly where to sit and which seats to avoid in the side orchestra section.
Tip: I would prefer to sit one row further back in exchange for a seat that is one seat closer to the inside aisle (i.e., I would prefer seat 15 in Row O, versus seat 17 in Row N).
Orchestra Left (Odd Numberย Side): In this partially obstructed view seating, the only part of the production ofย Wicked you will not be able to see is a metal dragon that hangs on the top of the stage, a prop only used briefly at the beginning of the show. There is a possibility you may not be able to see the backdrop and part of the farmhouse, but for the most part, the images projected there aren’t even a significant part of the show.
Orchestra Right (Even Numberย Side): ย If you’re going to purchase partially obstructed seats, my recommendation would be Orchestraย Right (Even Side) above row G. With these seats, you won’t miss a thing. In terms of price, you probably won’t find a better deal on Wicked Tickets than the partially obstructed view seats.
When buying tickets directly from the NY box office, your seat numbers will often be assigned. But for privacy purposes, tickets reselling on sites like StubHub, don’t have to state their seat numbers (only row and section). For this reason, I don’t recommend buying tickets in the Orchestra Right or Orchestra Left for Rows BB-G on secondary ticket marketplaces (Ticketmaster and Telecharge are okay).
Here, you would run the risk of purchasing tickets with significantly obstructed views, which would detract from the experience of seeing what’s happening on stage. If the prices seem too good to be true, they probably are.

Gershwin Theatre Best Seats for Wicked
Orchestra Center from rows E-L
If you read the previous section, then you discovered the risk of sitting in the first few rows of Orchestra Left and Orchestra Right, and how these seats could turn up a sub-par theatre experience. This likely leads to the question, why are the closest seats in the Center Orchestra not the most desirable?
These are the raised stages. The first few rows are close to the stage, but not necessarily in a good position to see what is happening on stage, much like the experience at a movie theatre when you have to sit in the front rows. ย The action doesn’t take place at eye level when you’re in the first few rows of the Orchestra, Rows BB, CC, DD, and EE, and you’ll probably end up with a stiff neck. Even seats up to Row E in the Orchestra Center are closer than what is considered ideal for Wicked. With that said, the best seats are in the Orchestra Center, rows F to L.
Gershwin Theatre Obstructed View Seats – The Cheapest Wicked Tickets?
If you’re looking for the cheapest Wicked Tickets, partially obstructed seats will be your best bet (more information on this below). You can also check out this blog onย rush tickets, which offers advice on how to obtain rush tickets, as well as lottery tickets for The Book of Mormon.ย Although written specifically for BOM, the information applies to getting Rush tickets forย Wickedย and other Broadway shows in NY as well.
There is a limited number of Side Orchestra seats that offer partially obstructed views. The obstructed seats are indicated by the red triangles, which are not labeled with a number in the seating chart above. In these sections, you may lose sight of the performers during some of Wicked.ย The key to getting decent seats at a decent price is by buying tickets that are marked obstructed view, yet are above row G.ย When sitting above row G, you’ll lose part of the scenic background, but very limited action occurs on the far sides of the stage.
Seats to Avoid at the Gershwin Theatre
- Loge Row AA overhangs orchestra Row J.
- Front Mezzanine Row A overhangs Orchestra Row O
- Seating Capacity of Gershwin Theatre: 1,933
These facts, along with many others unstated, combine to make choosing your seat at the Gershwin Theatre a dangerous gamble. The Overhangs at the Gershwin Theatre aren’t particularly large, considering the size of the Theatre. This means that nobody’s view is obstructed by the section above them, which is excellent for keeping an eye on the high-flying acrobatics of Wicked.ย
The mezzanines are not stacked too tightly, which is nice, but this also means that the rear mezzanine is considerably farther from the stage. In fact, some people have reported that it is difficult to see from the back of the rear mezzanine. Fortunately, theatres tend to be intimate compared to concert and sports venues, so we can disregard many of these complaints and those alike. If you don’t need to see the moles on the Wicked Witch’s face, rear mezzanine seats should be more than satisfactory.
Mezzanine Seats at Gershwin Theatre
Seats in the Mezzanine, as well as the Rear Mezzanine, do not obstruct views for the most part. New York theaters, including Gershwin Theatre, are small enough that even the ‘nosebleed’ seats are close to the performers for consistent acoustics and good sight lines. A concern should only be raised when considering tickets at the far extreme corners of the rear mezzanine because some of these seats may be partially obstructed. The good news is that if it is, they will be labeled that way.
It’s important to note that, although the Gershwin Theatre seating chart shows a break in the front mezzanine from the rear mezzanine, there’s virtually no break. I wouldn’t value the front mezzanine much more than the rear mezzanine (particularly if you’re on a budget).
Gershwin Theatre Reviews
Via TripAdvisor:
“We saw WICKED there. I’ve seen so many plays. It’s one of my favorites. The theatre was very modern. Escalators. Elevators. Friendly staff. We sat in the Mezzanine. First row. Our preference. No one in front of us. Great view. I’m 51 and I still used a buster seat. It helped me view the play over the protective metal bar. They sell alcohol, nonalcoholic drinks, and snacks. There was a 15-minute intermission. Appropriate for all ages. Dramatic and comical.”
Gershwin Theatre’s Lottery Policy
The Gershwin Theatre’s lottery policy shifts from show to show. Unfortunately, at the moment, Wicked does not have a lottery set up. Tickets must be purchased outright.

Looking at purchasing 3 tickets, Right Orchestra, Row Q seats 10-12. Thoughts on these seats?
Did u get s reply to this?
What about ORCH Row DD seats 2-8, good or not suggested? Thanks so much.
Hi Lauren – Those are a bit too close, I wouldn’t recommend them.
I got tickets for row EE seats 10 and 12 for $84 a piece. Are these good seats for the price?
i’m thinking of getting these seats as well. Are they good enough?
It depends how far to the right of the stage you will be as it may be hard to see at some points depending on how close you are. Might be safer to sit a little further back in the orchestra
Yes, what is the answer on that? How do you see replies? Ty
Rows E-O in the Center Orchestra are the better seats.
Does anyone know if sitting row A front row Mezz, if the bar is too high for shorter people? i’m 5’2 and unsure how high the bar is. thank you
Hi Julie – You can see the railing height in one of the pictures in the post. If i were you I would avoid sitting in row A to be safe.

Hi Jack.
Would Orchestra Row J seats 26-30 (partial view) or Row Z seats 7-11 be better?
Thank you. Yvonne
Hi! im confused with view would be better?
Orchestra R 115-116
Front Mezzanine A 22-24
Front Mezzanine C 112-113
Orchestra N 1-3
Thanks!
Orchestra N 1-3 is the best option.
We are going in June and would like to attend the June 2nd 8pm show. Where and how can I buy tickets with best view?
How is the view from the center of the first row in the mid mezzanine?
Question! Orchestra Right Row J, seats 10-16 OR Orchestra Left Row M, seats 13-19
Is center orchestra row p good seats? It looks like and sounds like the mezzanine hangs over it, any obstructed view?
Hello, center orchestra row P are great seats! While the mezzanine may hang over it, there would be no obstruction for your view there. A tip is to look at the seller notes for any listing that you may be interested in, because a seller is required to disclose any sort of obstruction or limited view if it is printed on the face of the ticket so buyers know before placing an order.
Thanks Connor
Right orch. row F partially obstructed. What WONT I be able to see? $79 vs $119 to move a few rows higher to say row L?
Looking at Wicked Row Q Seat 2 & 4 are they good seats
Wish I found this site a couple of months ago before buying tickets. Purchased orchestra row B seats 10 and 12. Are these ok?
Sean – Those are fantastic seats. Not too close and not too far off to the side. I think you’ll be pretty pleased with them.
Thanks Joe
One guest can not climb stairs. What seats or sections do you recommend. Is there elevator or escalator available
Was only able to get the following front mezz seats during the 2for1 broadway deals:
AA seat 6, BB seat 6, and DD seat 10. All 3 seats are end seats. From what I’ve read, these are the seats to avoid. Are they really that bad? I’m worried my 10-year old will not appreciate the show only because of the seats.
Karen – We’re really not sure, as none of us have personally sat in those seats. I think your view won’t be as bad as you think. But please let us know how it goes if you end up sticking with those seats, we’d love to hear your feedback.
How about fmezz Rw b 17-23?
Hi Amy, those seats should be perfectly fine, especially considering that they will be far enough back in the orchestra and close enough to the aisle to make the angle from being on the sides not an issue at all. They will have a great time!
I have tickets for Orchestra Rightโฆrow Rโฆseats 6-14. I’m sending 5 kids to the show (ages 13-18). Are these good for them?
Hi Cassie, row CC in the Front Center Orchestra is the second overall row from the stage, which some would find too close for their liking and a potential pain in the neck (literally) for those having to look up for the entire show, particularly for shorter people. While you would be right on top of the action, some would value being a bit further back from the stage a bit more.
how are seats cc 101 and 102 for wicked
Buying tickets for my daughter & i to see wicked- should we go with 2 tix in row T 111,112; Row N 6&8 or Row J 7&9?
I’d go with J 7 & 9
I just ordered row H seats 13, 15, 17 and 19 for a show in December. What a big purchase! Think this will be ok? I did purchase insurance as we will be flying from Georgia and there is always a chance with bad weather and flying that somebjng could change.
Heather – Those are solid seats. A little bit of a side view but I’m sure you got a great deal on them. Enjoy!
Thank you for the quick reply! I could also get row F seats 105-8 but they are premium seating and they do not offer insurance for premium. I would be willing to take on the price increase but scared of not getting insurance.
How’s the view from lower row Q??? VS Orchestra right middle kind of seats??? Which would be better???
Thanks T
Orchestra right center in a middle row would be a better option.
Looking at tickets and confused about seating. Looking at row J first 6 seats on the right or Q center stage. Which seats are best for seeing Wicked?
Thanks Jack. You have been extremely helpful and responsive!
Hi Jack. Thank you so much for your response. Not to be too worrisome but I found seats in Orchestra Right Row J Seats 8,10,12,14. Would these be better than Row N? Thanks for your time and help!
Can’t go wrong with either option. If you prefer to be on the aisle go with the N’s – I would say go with the cheaper option if there is any price difference.
Hi Jack. Here are the seats available. Could you tell me which would be the best and the best value?
Orchestra Row N, 2,4,6,8
Orchestra Row N, 1,3,5,7
Orchestra Stadium Row Q, 1,3,5,7
Orchestra Stadium Row T, 108,109,110,111
Hi Lindsay – I would go with either of the Orchestra Row N options. Those will both be on the aisle in the Orchestra Left (1-7) and Orchestra Right (2-8).
Hi Jack. I am taking my granddaughters and daughter in law to New York Dec 4&5 and they have chosen Wicked to see for their Broadway play. I want them to be able to see well but am also cost conscious. What would be a good choice? Thank you
Any advice for tall people going to the show? Mezzanine? Anything to avoid? Does the front mezzanine row A have legroom? Trying to weed through what is best.
Hi Russ – If you are on the taller side should look sit on the aisles – those seats will have a bit more leg room than sitting in the middle of a section. I would avoid sitting in the rear mezzanine also as those seats tend to have less leg room.
a 1,3 or g 109,110
thanks for the help!
Hi im so indecisive~ Orchestra row f seats 5 & 7 or row k 5 & 7. We never get to the theater and I want to get as close as possible but not sure if Row F is too close where we are looking up? Thanks for any help!
Deb – I’d personally go with Row K. Row F is a bit too close for my taste. Good luck!
This was interesting to read how you have researched all the ways to see the play. This can be helpful, especially to someone who has never been to a venue before. Thanks for all the great info.
Would you prefer Orchestra Center Row P 108-112 or Orchestra Row S 108-112 with a steeper grade from the seats in front of you. Wanting to make sure my 11 year old son will be able to see over the heads in front of him but realize the Row S seats are an aisle and 3 rows behind the Row P seats.
Mary – Once you are passed the first few rows, I do feel it is preferable to sit as close to the stage as possible. The incline of the rows is about the same throughout, so he should have no trouble seeing over the people in front of him. I would choose Row P in this case!
Please advice which are better seats: Orchestra H 27 and J 27,29 , or Rear Mezz J 10,12,14, or Mezz Row B 25,27,29
i want to go see Wicked for my 50th birthday this month but am on a tight budget. which seats should i look for for view and price. thank you
Thanks so much for your post. Very helpful. Taking my 10 yr old step daughter in August. Still a little confused on right vs. left. Would you take Orchestra Row W, Seat 8, 10, 12 or Mezz Row A Seat 26, 28, 30. Loge EE is also available for close price. Any help is greatly appreciated.
I see tickets on sale for seats located in Orchestra row D partial obstructed, Seat 22 and 24, any comment on those seats, will I miss a lot of the show?
Hi Stephen – Those are the right side of the venue, so some of the action on that side of the stage will be blocked for you.. If you are looking at obstructed seats, you would ideally want to sit above row G.
Thank you Jack, I decided on Row T seats 1 and 3, I prefer to have a full view. Appreciate your reply!
Wondering if Orch Left row D seats 1,3,5 on the aisle would be too close for 5 foot, 12 year olds? I have the opportunity to get row J also on the aisle there. Advice appreciated.
Hi Peter – I’d definitely go with the J’s, that’s one of the best rows to be in.
Thanks, Jack. Since Gershwin doesn’t exchange, I may have to stick with the D row seats. I’m assuming the girls will enjoy the show from there, unobstructed, since they are 1,3,5 next to the aisle. Do you know offhand?
It may be difficult to see the Dragon that hangs above the stage, but otherwise those should be okay.
Hi Peter, how were your seats? I’m looking to purchase those exact seats or possibly even two rows up, and any insight would be great. Thanks!
Hi. I am looking at seats in the Loge Row DD Seats 1,3. What do you think about these seats? Or Orch Row N seats 18,20. We are short and it is my boyfriend’s first broadway show. I want him to have a great experience. Thanks in advance.
Which would you choose, center orchestra Row D or Row W?
Tabitha – I’d choose Row D! It’s not too close to the stage where you’d sit all the way back in Row W just to avoid it.

Row O, Seats 13 & 14? First time to the Gershwin and seeing Wicked. Hoping these are good seats.

Hi Jay – You should be very pleased with those seats. Enjoy the show!

Should I purchase Orchestra Row M, 107-8 or Orchestra Row N, 107-8?
Missy – I would go with Row M. It’s always better to sit closer to the stage until you get to about the first 6 rows or so. Thanks!

Would you consider FMezz Row D, Seats 107 – 110 good seats?
Would you consider FMezz Row D, Seats 107 – 110 good seats?
Carol – I would absolutely consider those good seats. Anything in the Front Center Mezzanine would give you a great view.

Oh I should have waited a little bit more since I already bought the ones in row E! (I thought the ones in the H were gone so I went ahead with E quickly but H weren’t gone actually) I guess I would have to comfort myself that I can see all the details better ๐ Thanks for your advice anyway! This post was really helpful.
Jessica, those are the seats I am thinking about purchasing. Can you tell me if you were happy with the seats. For the price, I want to ensure they are worth the money. thank you
