New Amsterdam Theatre Seating Chart Information
Unlike the majority of Broadway theaters, the New Amsterdam Theatre does not have obstructed view seats on the sides of the orchestra and mezzanine. However, the last couple of rows of the mezzanine may obstruct your view if you are taller, due to the overhang of the balcony. If any seats are partially obstructed, it will be noted in the listing regardless of where you purchase your tickets. Balcony Row A overhangs the Mezzanine starting at Row DD, and Mezzanine Row A overhangs at Orchestra Row P.
Now, even though the seats on the far right and left sides of the orchestra sections are not obstructed, they are still not optimal for watching the performance. In most cases, I would prefer to sit one row further back in exchange for a seat that is one seat closer to the inside aisle (i.e., I would prefer seat 15 in Row O, versus seat 17 in Row N). The right side of the New Amsterdam Theatre has even-numbered seats, and the left side has odd-numbered seats. In the center sections, the seat numbers are consecutive.
When buying tickets directly from the NY box office, your seat numbers will often be assigned. However, for privacy purposes, tickets resold on sites like StubHub don’t have to state their seat numbers (only the row and section). For this reason, I don’t recommend buying tickets in the Orchestra Right or Orchestra Left for Rows BB-G on secondary ticket marketplaces (Ticketmaster and Telecharge are okay). Here, you would run the risk of purchasing tickets with significantly obstructed views, taking away from the experience of seeing what’s up on stage. If the prices seem too good to be true, they probably are.
New Amsterdam Theatre and Aladdin Reviews
Here are a few of the more helpful reviews found on Yelp:
“I saw some people complain about the spaciousness of the seats here, and I wondered if either 1) they have not been to other B’way theaters, or 2) the seats are different in different parts of the theaters. This is the fifth Broadway theater I’ve been to, and the New Amsterdam was, by far, the most comfortable. My wife and I found the seats comfortable and reasonably spacious, and in the Orchestra seats, we had more legroom than I’ve found in the other theaters I’ve visited.
The New Amsterdam is a lovely old theater that has been refurbished by Disney. I found the place impressive–lovely old ambiance, good seats, terrific sound. There are a lot of stairs to navigate to get to the bathrooms, but a disabled bathroom is available on the main floor.
I went to see Aladdin and found it very colorful, energetic, and fun. The sets were terrific, the performances were great, dancing and singing were, as expected, great. I think the show would be appealing for everyone, but if you’re a Disney fan, there are plenty of inside jokes (plus a great and comedic mashup of Disney hits sung by the Genie in the first act.)”
9/19/2014 – 4 Stars
“Came here to watch Aladdin and it was pretty awesome.
Of course, the show was amazing with great singing and dancing. Though I’m a Disney nerd so I may be a bit biased. My mind is still blown as to how they made the carpet fly so beautifully! The sets were gorgeous and so were the costumes! I liked how they included “Proud of Your Boy”, which had been cut from the Disney movie. Also, Genie did such a great job. It was amazing. Given the chance, I definitely would watch it again.
The theater itself is beautiful. We were sitting in the mezzanine and I had a wonderful view of the stage. The space can get crowded, but it’s the same with most Broadway theaters. It took a while to head to the bathrooms, but despite the lack of spaciousness they did a great job with the layout..though I’m not an interior designer, I can’t say much
Overall it was a great experience!”

Lottery/Rush
For a chance to get very cheap tickets on the same day of the show, you can enter the digital lottery. If you win the lottery, you can get 1 or 2 tickets for $30 each. The drawback to these tickets is that you have no control over where the seats are or if they have a partial view. But, at the end of the day, you cannot beat the price.

Hey, my husband is very tall (6’5)- would it be better to get middle Mezzanine or very far side Mezzanine before row DD???
Hi there, I got a confirmation for Orch A 5-7, can’t find it in the plan as Orchestra seems to start with row B?!? Would be great to get help here, as it is the first broadway experience for us.
I’m finding seats in row A in center orchestra. Is that too Close?
Hi Jig, one would generally want to avoid being in the first four or so rows from the stage so as to avoid having to deal with potential neck pain the next day; however, if the price is right, the view should still be pretty good as long as there’s no obstruction marked on the listing!
Hi, I understand that you said far left and right not so great. Unfortunately, I just bought far left, row H 7,9,and 11. Probably should have looked for mezzanine in center, but got excited when I saw row H. Please, any opinions on these seats. For me, I felt like I spent a lot of money and hope they have a decent view. Thanks!!
hi guys i got MEZZ FF 25, 27 what do u think? a bday present for a good friend..
How are the seats in BALC, Row B Seats 101 and 102 (isle seats)? Two people on the shorter side.
Better to be there or something like Sec MEZZ, Row LL, Seat 101 ?
One more question – Do you have a blog for Beautiful as well?
Any idea what Row A Orcheatra Center seats are like? Too close to the action? Railing in the way? Any help you could give would be appreciated.
Looking for an answer to this question as well.
I have a 5 yr old 42″ tall. Will the railing block her view from MEZZ ROW CC?
Should I purchase Orchestra Row E or Mezz Row C? This is our first trip to Broadway! It will be me and my 9 year old son. Thanks!
What are your thoughts on Mezzanine GG 11-17? Will we be missing out on anything major? Would those be preferable to Orchestra D9-15 or vice-versa? Thanks in advance for your help!
Can you tell me which seats are the best choice? Mezzanine AA center OR mezzanine right AA 2-20 OR Orchestra right Q 2-12? We are trying to get six seats together and 3 are kids. Thanks for your advice!
Has anyone sat in the balcony center in row g? Last minute trip to NYC for spring break, and this is all they have! Worth $104 each?
Hi – does the railing obstruct the view in mezz row aa?
Has anyone sat in the mezz, row AA seats 16-18 before?? Or the same seats on the other side? about to book but cant decide if theyre too far to the side or not.. this is for Aladdin! Thanks!
How are the boxes? I’m also celebrating a child birthday and it will be just the two of us! So excited and want her too see. She’s 5 but taller for her age
Hi Anne – it can be bit difficult to see some of the action on the stage from the boxes because of the angle. I think you may be happier in orchestra or center mezzanine seats.
Hi, Would you suggest Mezz row AA seats 5,7 or should I save a few bucks and sit Mezz row EE seats 1,3? Am I getting that better of a view from the AA seats to justify an extra $28 per ticket?
Hi Ari – I think it is definitely worth the extra $28 to be in row AA, unless you value aisle seats more.
Are front row seats good for 8 year old to see or are there obstructions?
I get conflicting reviews online.
Should I get Row U in the orchestra seats 4, 6, 8 (second to last row but more toward the center) or Row M seats 10, 12, 14 (more in the middle of the row). I am bringing my 6 year old daughter?
Hi Matthew, either of those options should be great, but it depends on how important being closer to the stage is to you. Being a bit further back and towards the aisle would provide a better angle, but if you think your daughter would appreciate being a bit closer to the stage, the row Ms would probably be the way to go.
Hi,
Looking at buying seats to Aladdin and was wondering which section you would recommend more for a 9 year old to be able to see…the Orchestra section in the middle or the Mezz section in the middle? Thank you!
A lower row Mezz section would be most ideal!
Thanks Luke! Would you go the middle of the middle section on the Mezz (ie. Row CC107,108,109) or more of an angle and either Row CC 2,4,6 or BB 2,4,6?
Definitely middle section in the Mezz.
Hello,
Got 2 seats for my girlfriend and I on her birthday, AA 26&28, never been to a play are those good seats?
They may be a little off to the side but you should still be able to see all of the show!
does anyone know what row aa, seats 16-18 are like?? or the same seats on the other side? cant figure out from photos if theyre too far to the side…
Hello,
I have got a D 14 and 16 ticket. How it will be for 5.2 height person. I see it comes under your 2 and 3 area. I am bit unsure as this is mine first Broadway show
Thanks,
Vaibhav
Hi Vaibhav, those seats should be just fine in terms of sightlines. You’ll be up pretty high, but as long as the view is obstructed, you should still have a great time!
Hello,
I have got a D 14 and 16 ticket. How it will be
Hi, would mezzanine JJ be ok for a 6 year old? Would the bar be an issue? It’s for her birthday so i definitely want her to be able to see! I see the price goes up $63 per ticket after HH. Thanks for your help!
Christine – Yes I think those tickets would absolutely be fine for any age. Those are in the center, and I don’t believe the railing would be an issue.
I am a larger person and worried about how tight the seats are – so Whats up with the box seats? They appear to be chairs – and not tight seats- yet seem to not be popular? I am looking at the ones in the balcony. Anyone been there or have any clues?
Hi! Going to the show. Just changed my seats from Mezzanine DD to Orchestra left, row D seats 1 & 2. Mistake??
Hi Jessie, while you will be a bit close to the stage (as row D is the 3rd actual row from the stage), having the two seats closest to the aisle should provide a solid view for the show. We think you’ll have a great time!
There was availability in row G. Show I exchange? I really appreciate this forum! My daughter and I are excited for the show. I’m not a huge Disney buff but I have heard good things:)
We’re happy to help! Depending on how close your seats in Row G would be to the aisle, it may be worth it to try and move back a few rows to get a better view. If it came at the expense of moving towards the far side of that row towards the wall, however, it may be worth it to stay pat in row D.
Hi! We purchased tickets in Row DD Seats 1-7 in the Mezzanine and I was hoping you could tell me if the view from these seats is obstructed at all? Will we be disappointed? I appreciate your opinion. Thank you! Cathy
Cathy – Those are great seats, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. Enjoy!
Hey Bob, we shouldn’t think you’ll be disappointed by these discounted rate seats because while you may be off towards the side, you’ll be far back enough in the Mezzanine to where you should have a pretty clear view of everything that’s going on in front of you.
Hi the only tickets that were available at the AARP 2 4 1 rate was HH 25 & 27 so I took them . Will we be disappointed ? your opinion please ? thank you , Bob B
Hi Jack, thank you for this detailed review. I am planning on buying tickets for my 7 year old Son and wife to go see Aladdin. The chart is a bit confusing to me. I want a nice view… Ive searched over 20-30 dates on Ticketmaster but not sure which seat to choose as I don’t want to be disappointed when I get there.
I’m looking between January 3-25th any day excluding Saturday. And want to make sure my 7 year old will see everything without any issues. Also want to be in the center preferably. I would appreciate any help you could offer.
Taking my son to see alladin. Is Row A to close? Will we be able to see everything?
Hi Missy – Row B is the first row in the orchestra sections, and yes that would be a bit too close. Check out the seating chart above which outlines the best rows.
Hey Jack. That’s odd because I went to ticketmaster and they are offering orchestra row A seats 103-109. How could that be if you say first row is B? Do you really think i would be sorry getting such close seats? I really want this to be a great experience for my son.
Thanks.
I think I am going to get row F. I looked at the seating chart you posted. Thanks again
it would be great if your rating system clarified if 1 was the highest rating or 4 was…I can guess but not exactly sure. i even tried to look at your example and i don’t see row o.
Jackie – 1 is the best rating and 4 is the worst.
Hi there! Wondering if row S of the orchestra is obstructed by the mezzanine overhang?? My mom requires a left-handed aisle seat, so the choices orchestra row S (2,4,6) or mezzanine row JJ (2,4,6)…any suggestions?
Hi there, I’m going to NY with my partner next year to see Aladdin & are deciding between Orchestra J centre section or Mezzanine AA left section closest seats to the aisle. Which would you recommend is the better option?
Hi, what is the boxes view like for Aladdin? I mean the highest boxes, the ones close to the balcony? Would that be too sided or obstructed somehow? Any opinion will be very much appreciated!
If one was sitting in row s of orchestra , would the mezzanine overhang block the view of special effects?? ( Aladdin specifically)
Going back to see Aladdin again with my 11 and 13 year old, along with another adult. We had fantastic seats in the orchestra last time, but I can’s spend as much this time. Which would be better- Orchestra Row Q seats 6, 8, 10, 12 or Mezzanine Row EE seats 1, 3, 5, 7? Thanks!
Hi there – those seats are pretty equal – if you’ve already sat in the Orchestra maybe give the Mezz a try, and those seats will be on aisle!
I saw a picture of this theatre that made it look like row W (in the back of the orchestra) is next to where they have the sound/lights. Do you know if that’s the case? That’s where our seats are but I’m wondering if that would be distracting…
Is Orchestra Row H too close? I’m looking at isle seats 114 & 115 for two adults. Thanks!
Hey Leslie – Those seats are great!
I called Ticketmaster and they said AA Mezz is held back for VIP so I could not purchase it… Does anyone know when they release Row AA Mezz for Aladdin?
Also, why are Tuesday night seats more expensive than Wed and Thursday? Thanks again!
Hey Lauren – Good questions, wish I had better answers – not sure when they would release the AA Mezz’s, it could depend on what date of the show you are seeing. Also – not entirely sure why Tuesday’s are more expensive – it could be be that the actors are different on Tuesday.
Thanks for your response 🙂
Hi. What do you think of balcony row B, seats 2, 4, 6, and 8? Or would you suggest balcony row B seats 2, 4 and row C seats 2,4. Overall, will we be disappointed sitting in the balcony?
I a, thinking buying the same. Did u end up getting those seats?. Were they good? Or were u disappointed ??!
I’m wondering if row AA in the mezzanine is obstructed by the railing? Does the theater sell these seats anyway or is row BB first in the mezz available?
Lauren – That’s a great question. I would not think that there would be an obstruction in Row AA from the railing, but I have never sat there myself and don’t want to steer you in the wrong direction. In this case it may be best to reach out to the venue directly to ask them if the railing will obstruct the view.
Thanks for responding 🙂 Row AA was held back so could not purchase it anyway… Does anyone know when they release Row AA Mezz for Aladdin?
Also, why are Tuesday night seats more expensive than Wed and Thursday? Thanks again!
Are the center balcony seats too far away? I am planning on taking my daughter for her 8th birthday.
Hi Kristen – As long as you aren’t in the last few rows that section will be fine.
Hi jack, thanks is for great details in this. I know u said u would prefer inner seats then outer seat for the trade off, do u think left/ right balcony 2-4 is still better than middle mezzanine GG 28,30(the outer seat) ? Is balcony B 2-4 a bad seat? From ur chart, you marked 3 on both.
Hi Erica – I would go with the Balcony seats in this case. You would be on the inside aisle rather than all the way to the right side of the stage.
I’m deciding between Orchestra Row B, seats 103-107 or Row K seats 107-111. Is row B too low? Which would you recommend?
Hi Maggie – Row B is a bit too close, I would go with the row K’s.
why is row b too close?
Hi, Would you recommend Middle Mezzanine Row LL or Middle Balcony Row A, Seat 105 +106? Thanks for your help!
Hi, I am planning to see aladdin in christmas period but unsure whether to go with mezz EE centre section or mezz AA on left section but closer to middle isle?
I would go with Mezz EE!
Hi, taking out kids age 6 and 8 to see Aladdin. Would you suggest orchestra seats around row K or row AA or BB in the mezzanine. All seats will be towards the middle. Thanks!
Hey Dan – I’d go orchestra row K – The bar in the front row of the Mezz may be difficult for your kids to see over.
Hello! I’m planning on getting seats for Aladdin the day after Christmas for me and my mom. I’m wondering if MEZZ Row JJ are great seats for 5 feet and 3 inches women?
Hi Aki – I think you will both be happy in those seats!
Thanks so much!!
Hi, for Aladdin at the New Amsterdam, does anyone have an opinion on the following: Balcony Row A, seats 26+28 (far right), or Balcony Row C, seats 1+3 (far left)?
Hey Mike – I would go with row C seat 1-3. Those are on the aisle closer to the center and will have a much better view.
Hey Jack wondering if you have any suggestions for Jersey Boys. Is there a major difference between Row C in the Mezz and Row J in the Mezz? Is it worth paying more for row C?
Question: Balcony Row A or Mezz Row LL. ON TickPick, Can you pick your seats?
Hi – No, can not pick your specific seat numbers, only the section and row.
Hi, which seats did you go for? I need to choose between same options 😀
Orchestra Row L seats 26-28 are listed as limited view. Do you have any experience with just how limited the view is? Thank you.
Desiree – We don’t have any direct experience with those seats, but you can expect that some of the performers on the side of the stage will be obstructed from your view throughout the show. You’ll be able to see everything in the middle of the stage or on the far end, it will just be the side of the stage closest to you where some of your view is obstructed.
Hi, what is the best row in the Orchestra for Aladdin?
Jack, Would you suggest MEZZ Row JJ Seat 2 and 4 (closest to the middle MEZZ) or something like BALC Row C Seats 1 and 3 (closest to the middle Balcony). Will MEZZ Row JJ be obstructed?
Hi Andrew – I’d prefer those Mezz seats to the balcony. Since you are right next to the center section those won’t be obstructed, and sellers are required to include any obstructions printed on the tickets in the listing notes. The seats in the balcony row CC will essentially overhang at row JJ in the Mezz.
Cool thanks. I’ve used your seating charts before and they are super helpful. Looks like there are less “2” sections and more “3” sections than usual (ie. Book of Mormon). My other question is, how worth it is it to upgrade the ticket? Does it make sense to pay $40 more per seat to go from Row JJ of the MEZZ to row BB, CC or DD of the MEZZ?
I think it depends on how many tickets you need. If you are upgrading 4 tickets I don’t think I would pay $160 total to move up. If it is just a pair it might be, but I would want to be sure I would end up in row BB and not DD.
Definitely only 2 and the row upgrade depends on the day I choose. BB is not available on my preferable day. If it’s between JJ and DD I should just go with JJ and save a little money?
Yup, that’s what I would do.
Great thanks for your help
Hey Jack wondering if you have any suggestions for Jersey Boys. Is there a major difference between Row C in the Mezz and Row J in the Mezz?
What’s the price difference? If it is $30 or less per ticket I’d go with the row C’s.
$137 for row C and $101 for row J. I have a work discount but only for certain rows. Worth it to spend the extra money on Jersey Boys? Sorry for asking here, but couldn’t find a Jersey Boys forum!
2 tickets? If so then I’d go for it. 4 tickets I’d stay in row J.
Yup 2 tickets
Okay so one more question about Jersey Boys. Would you rather sit Mezz C or J or in Orch R or T? Similar pricing…
That’s a toss up, very similar so comes down to personal preference.
Well the person I am taking is short (5’3”) so does that factor into the decision? I personally do not have a preference.
Go Mezz C in that case
Would you suggest front row (Orchestra A, middle) over A Balcony (not sure which section) for a first time (and probably once in a lifetime.. we are from Australia) Broadway experience? Five of the 6 of us are short ( including two 12 year olds). Looking at purchasing through Broadwaybox.. or Vivid unless you have another suggestion.. THANKS!

Kirsty – I would recommend Orchestra Center, Row A, over Balcony Row A. You’ll be very close to the stage, but it’s better than being too far from the stage! Finally, I would recommend using TickPick as your course to buy tickets. We don’t charge any service fee to the buyer which means our tickets will be cheaper than they are on other marketplaces which charge as much as 15-30%. Let us know if you need any help shopping for tickets on our site!
